The Greater Midland Tennis Center is hosting an open house on Saturday, February 11, from 1pm to 3pm. The whole Great Lakes Bay Region is invited to attend and learn more about the facility and its offerings. Being the largest indoor and outdoor tennis facility in the Midwest, there is plenty to experience and explore, especially with the new year-round pickleball offerings.

The open house provides an opportunity for kids and adults to gear up and take a swing at tennis. Junior programs and classes are available for preschoolers through high school athletes. It’s a great way to introduce the sport, develop skills, and even prepare for higher-level competitions. All skill levels are welcome, and no prior experience is required. Adult programs are also offered, including lessons, learn to play clinics, leagues, drop-in classes, and more. Whether your goals are to fine-tune your tennis skills, or catch a workout, the Tennis Center has a variety of offerings for the whole community to enjoy.

“Everyone at Greater Midland is very excited for the upcoming open house! It’s always fun to get the community together, play some games, and have a good time. Every opportunity to teach and play tennis is a great one,” said Jeff Rekeweg, Executive Director of the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

In addition to tennis classes and programs, the Tennis Center also offers pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the U.S. Like tennis, pickleball is a sport for everyone. Clinics are available to introduce pickleball to those who are unfamiliar, and tournaments and open play are available for those players looking to develop skills for friendly competition.

“We have been making changes, including providing great pickleball opportunities,” said Rekeweg. The Greater Midland Community Center has been one of the only places in town to play during non-preferable weather. The thing I love the most about pickleball is that it brings all ages of people together. An 8-year-old can be playing on the same court as his grandparents, and it can be fun and competitive for everyone.”

Anyone attending the open house will have the chance to tour the facility, meet the Greater Midland Tennis Pros and crew, learn about tennis and pickleball, play games, and even have the chance to win prizes. The Open House is a free event prior to the Winter 2 session kicking off on February 20. More information about this event and more can be viewed at greatermidland.org/tennis-center.
