Record-Breaking Summer Camp Season for Greater Midland!

Record-Breaking Summer Camp Season for
Greater Midland!

Wednesday, August 31, 2022

The Greater Midland Community Center had a record-breaking summer camp season hosting over 4,000 campers from May 31 to August 19, 2022.

Summer Camp season at Greater Midland is a special time of the year offering hundreds of exciting camps in a safe environment with hours of fun. Each summer, their camps provide opportunities for kids to gain independence, participate in hands-on learning experiences, improve self-confidence and create lasting friendships.

"Summer Camp season is one of my favorite times of the year at Greater Midland," said Terri Johnson, Greater Midland's President and CEO. "The halls are filled with laughter, camp songs and happy campers!"

The record-breaking Greater Midland Summer Camps were made possible this year thanks to their camp staff known as Professional Role Models. Greater Midland Professional Role Models are selected based on their strengths in youth development and areas of interest.

They are dedicated to working with campers to improve their self-esteem, social skills and independence. This year Greater Midland employed over 75 Professional Role Models.

"For many Professional Role Models, Summer Camps is their first job," said Jenny Roan, Summer Camp Director. "It amazes me to watch them engage with the campers throughout the season as they truly live out their Professional Role Model title."

Summer Camps aren't just special to Greater Midland and its staff, their importance also shines through in the community. During the Greater Midland Community Center's Groundbreaking Celebration for the new Community Center building, the Orlowski Family shared the impact Greater Midland Summer Camps has had on their family, and specifically on their son Deacon, who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year. Kori Orlowski spoke on how her son’s camp experience became something bigger through Greater Midland, turning a goal into a legacy providing encouragement and hope. The Center has been a place where their children had the freedom to dream of their future surrounded by Positive Role Models. To hear Kori's full speech, click here.

Greater Midland Summer Camps have been running for over 40 years impacting the lives of thousands. They look forward to being able to serve thousands more for years to come.
