In tandem with the shouts of “Game!  Set!  Match!” the Midland Community Tennis Center revealed its highly anticipated Paul Oreffice Outdoor Tennis Complex.  The crowd of 250 community members, donors, board members, and employees, cheered wildly as the final black curtain fluttered to the ground.

Mike Woody, Executive Director, said, “The new complex brings a wonderful new outdoor tennis environment that will boost us to 40 courts, and will continue to ensure and validate that we are the Best Tennis Town in the United States.”

The Paul Oreffice Complex will officially open in the spring of 2011, and will boast the following features:

  • 8 newly resurfaced courts, in the colors of the U.S. Open
  • 7 renovated courts
  • 4 Quick Start Courts (for ages 8 and under)
  • 3 Quick Start Courts (for ages 10 and under)
  • 4 State-of-the-art Clay Courts
  •    Barrier Free Accessibility (ramps)
  •    Expanded viewing for spectators
  •    Improved drainage infrastructure

Julie Close, Board Chair of the Midland Community Tennis Center, thanked the more than 200 donors who contributed to the project and shared,

“Everyone’s support is so appreciated.  Yes, this complex will be named the Paul Oreffice Outdoor Tennis Complex.  However, each of our donors can take credit for that fact that this complex will impact thousands of people of all ages for many more decades.”
